Every SMS you send uses a credit. Most messages under 160 characters use 1 credit.
If your message is longer than 160 characters, it will be split into smaller parts. Each part uses 1 additional credit. For example:
1–160 characters = 1 credit
161–320 characters = 2 credits
321–480 characters = 3 credits
